'Lucy meets the evolution of Inside Out in this pleasantly surprising book. I didn't expect to find such a fascinating and so out-of-the-box story. This beauty is packed with witty and clever references; edgy irony complements a carefully built story. The writing is rich in details and thick with meaning, each syllable a small piece that contributes to form an original jigsaw. The unusual final picture is a breath of fresh air.
The story is told in first POV and from Nia's perspective, her head to be precise, her inner monologues are a fresh perspective, her lucid analysis an enticing journey of the mind. Her desire to veer from a normal path and to conform leads her into the clutch of a formidable man. Victor is as addictive as dominating; once he sets his eyes on Nia, he plows through her barriers in his attempt to own her.
Victor's demeanour is a stark contrast to her carefully built equilibrium; his proximity springs the onset of new voices in her head, however, some of them refuse to comply to logic. Nia has to face new possibilities, and she's not ready nor equipped to deal with them.
At first, I must admit it took some adjustment to get used to this type of narrative. Nia's mind was a jumble of confused stream of thoughts, as I got to know her, my mind was captured by her genius. By the time I reached the end of the story, I was addicted to her reasoning. I also took her side in her fights, I admired her spirit and was equally indignant as she was with how the male population always try to control and tame women. I was outraged by Victor's behaviour, and I wasn't happy with his double standards nonetheless, I'm still holding my judgment, I hope his backstory will be provided in the next opus, as it stands, I can't forgive him nor the way he selfishly acted.
This captivating story ends on a cliffhanger. Patience went on strike, and my limited mind can't process how to fix the broken pattern until the next chapter comes out...'

'What an amazing debut! This book was absolutely phenomenal. So unique and different from some of the dark romance books I've read. It was smart, sharp, and so well written. The author did a brilliant job here. I could never guess it was her first novel. It kept me glued to the pages from the very beginning. It had everything I love in a book - mystery, suspense, romance and yep, some really hot scenes too. It was very fast-paced and full of twists.
I was completely immersed in the world of Nia and Victor. Nia was a brilliant and complicated character. It was a bit hard for me to connect with her at first, but as I went into the book, I understood her better and why she was the way she was. She wasn't able to express her emotions like most people, and that made her unique and beautiful for me in her own way. It made me love her mind, and I loved being inside of it. She was so f** smart, and I was fascinated by her.
And then we have Victor. Oh, Victor! I fell so in love with him. Damn, that man knew what he was doing... In and out of bed! Victor was dark, alpha, and dominating. He was the perfect match for Nia. They were both made for each other. I don't wanna give too much, but I can only say this - you all need to read it. If you like angsty, dark mafia romance books, I highly recommend this one. ONE: ANGELS ARE HARD TO LOVE is book one in the Awakening Madness series, and it's a must-read!! As a dark book lover, I absolutely devoured it.'
